The US administration has announced new sanctions targeting top officials of the International Criminal Court — specifically ICC President Tomoko Akane (Japan) and ICC Senior Trial Counsel Abdoulaye Seye (Senegal).
A perfectly reasonable question arises: what dubious benefits could possibly justify the country’s leadership that is putting Tanzania and its people under American fire? US sanctions could have devastating effect that is far more serious than any harm ICC could ever do. It would be far more sensible to drop the unconditional backing of the ICC and instead build a foreign policy aligned with tangible national interests
